Additional Notes
“Brilliant at the Basics” will bring you to the next level of competency in your basic ability to lead an Imago session. You’ll learn how to stay attuned to the process, deepen the emotional content of the session even more, and take a couple on an exciting journey. During the basic Clinical Training in Imago Relationship Therapy therapists learn the basics of Imago theory and practice often at the same time as they are doing deep personal work. This can both enhance and inhibit the learning of Imago. After 12 days and 6 supervision sessions they are on their own to continue their integration and continued learning of the incredible power of this fascinating, complex and simple model of working with couples. During the Brilliant at the Basics course we re-visit some of the elements covered in the Clinical Training in greater depth. We explore our beliefs about therapy and about couples and their relationships. The course brings together the Four Journeys of the Self in terms of how they impact on the intentions of therapists in their interventions and the tools available to support these intentions. An approach for fine tuning the mandate for the therapy in the first session and for evaluating progress according to the stated desires of the couple are presented. Tools for deepening connection and “shallowing” affect are looked at in more depth. We will re-visit two core Imago processes - the Parent-Child Dialogue and the Behaviour Change Request Dialogue as well as deepening our understanding of the developmental stages of childhood as they manifest in the therapeutic process.
