Profile

Hello. My name is Didier. I am a psychologist and couple therapist. Forming meaningful connections with people is what I value most in my work, and the foundation of my practice. We are relational beings and much of our satisfaction and pain comes from our relationships with others and with the world at large.

Some couples come to me to overcome a crisis in their relationship. Others want to stop the cycles of dissatisfaction and ‘new starts’. Some already have a good relationship and want to fine-tune the way they interact and/or communicate. They all want to replace discomfort, difficulties and pain in their relationship with feeling connected to their partner and a fulfilling relationship. Using the Imago approach, I can help you do that.

The Imago approach focuses on building the connection between partners and primarily works at two levels. First, I will help you establish safety in your relationship, and gives you the tools to hear each other out. Then I will help you to discuss safely what is uncomfortable or painful in your couple, and to build your ideal relationship.

Establishing genuine safety in our relationship

The ways we communicate and behave most often contain numerous negative cues which we are often unaware of: big or small instances of criticism, blame, or shame. With these micro-aggressions we raise each other’s defences and get stuck in cycles of reacting to each other. We are unable to hear each other out, and we end up protecting ourselves instead of acting as we truly want to.

In Imago, the main tool is a structured form of dialogue which allows us to communicate safely, without raising each other’s defences, and to really hear each other out. I will help you explore how the ways you react to each other are often related to your respective pasts. Understanding this will allow you to disarm together these triggers and connect with each other.

Building our best relationship

Once you are able to dialogue safely and genuinely hear each other out, I will help you discuss what is uncomfortable, difficult, or painful in your relationship. But Imago is about much more than addressing our relational difficulties. Using Imago, I will help you to develop and realise a shared vision of what your best relationship looks and feels like, based on how you can be your best together.
