Promoting a healthy relationship through recovery
We all strive for a healthy and happy relationship with our partner. When we are happy in our relationships, we are a lot more positive in other aspects of our lives. Sometimes in relationships, problems can arise, which can challenge the health of our relationships. A lot of the time, these issues can be worked through and the journey of recovery can lead to a happier and healthier relationship being resumed. In this blog we’re helping to promote a healthy relationship through recovery.
For some couples, having a healthy relationship means that both you and your partner feel comfortable discussing your emotions and you are able to actively listen to each other, in order to work through any issues.
When issues do occur, it is a tough time for both partners. Depending on the nature of the situation, one partner may feel guilt at their actions and another partner may feel disheartened at the actions of their partner. If both partners wish to get the relationship back on the right track, they will both be motivated to find peace. This would be a good time to seek marriage counselling in order to work through any problems in an effective way.
Everyone deals with experiences differently and therefore it’s really important that you carefully consider the various ways to get your relationship back on track. The first thing to remember when you begin your journey of connection is that every single day is a new one, with new possibilities for growth. Think about your relationship as a whole and consider what you can do today to move you one step forward to your relationship vision.
One great way that you can learn new skills to improve your relationship is through Imago relationship counselling. Anybody can attend Imago relationship counselling and learn the Imago Dialogue, which will transform the way you communicate and connect.
By attending couples therapy on a regular basis, you can learn various techniques to assist your relationship’s growth. For example, you will be taught communication skills, effective listening skills and ways to safely express your longing and needs. As well as completing activities during your therapy sessions, you may be asked to complete various tasks at home in your own time, which have been specially devised to build upon your relationship.
Highly skilled counsellors understand that each couple is different and therefore at Imago, we ensure that each of our couples receive a bespoke plan that they are happy with. It is normal to experience feelings of worry, or trust issues following issues within your relationship. Therefore, our plans work to create new ways of looking at partners and the relationship in a more positive light.
There are a few different things that you can do when you’re feeling down –
- Talk to your partner, you should try and be honest and non-judgemental. Relationship therapy can create a safe place for you to discuss your emotions freely.
- Do nice things with your partner and express appreciation on a regular basis. If you both enjoy going for a walk, make sure you try to fit a walk in a couple of times a week.
- Realise that it’s normal not to feel positive all the time. Some days you might fall back into old habits and that is OK. Like we said, you should try to take each day as it comes and do your best.
